Reinforcing Steel in East London: Your Eastern Cape Supplier

The Eastern Cape builds across a wide spread of work: commercial and residential developments in East London and along the coast, government and institutional projects, and industrial facilities inland. What those projects have in common is a need for reinforcing steel that arrives on time, cut to the drawings, with the paperwork in order, from a supplier close enough to respond when the programme moves.

RMS East London, on East Coast Resorts Road at Meisies Halt, supplies reinforcing steel, welded mesh, cut and bend and reinforcing accessories to contractors and developers across the province, with the same standards and certification as every other branch in the RMS network.

Reinforcing steel: stock lengths, cut to size and cut and bend

RMS East London supplies reinforcing steel three ways. Stock lengths for on-site fabrication or phased work; cut to size where straight bars are needed at set lengths; and cut and bend, where bars are cut and shaped to your bending schedule so they arrive ready to fix.

Both grades are supplied to SANS 920:2011: high tensile Y bars (450 MPa, deformed, the standard choice for structural reinforcement because of the grip the ribs give in concrete) and mild steel R bars (250 MPa, smooth, for lighter applications). Diameters run from 8 mm to 40 mm, with 6 mm on request, and shape codes follow the current South African schedule, which is aligned with British standards.

RMS does not manufacture steel. It sources quality steel, processes it to specification and supplies it with full traceability, and batch certificates are supplied so that material certificates are available for the engineer’s records. Galvanised rebar is available on request.

Welded mesh for slabs and surface beds

For floor slabs, surface beds, suspended slabs, pavements, retaining walls, culverts and precast elements, RMS East London supplies welded mesh from the standard square references, Ref 100 to Ref 888, in 6 m by 2.4 m sheets, with selected lighter references also available in rolls. RMS mesh is manufactured from cold-rolled deformed wire, joined by electric resistance welding at every intersection, and complies with SANS 1024 with a minimum proof stress of 485 MPa and a tensile strength of 510 MPa (BS 4482 compliant). Sheets are clearly labelled for site identification.

Mesh is supplied, not installed, and is not cut to size in the yard; smaller pieces are cut on site, allowing for laps where sheets overlap.

Stock or made to order

The branch runs a combination of readily available stock and made-to-order supply. Stock lengths and certain mesh products are often available immediately, while cut and bend and custom fabrication are produced to your project specification. Availability is confirmed when you order, so the programme is built on real dates.

Delivery from East London

Standard delivery lead time from East London is typically 3 to 5 working days, depending on product type, order size and the current production schedule. Exact timelines are confirmed when the order is placed.

Clear pricing, quick quotes

Pricing is based on material type, quantity, fabrication requirements and delivery location, and a detailed breakdown of material, processing and delivery costs can be supplied on request. Send project details, drawings or a material list by email or phone and the branch typically responds within 24 hours, depending on complexity. The online Rebar Calculator and Mesh Calculator on the calculators page give a first estimate of weights, lengths and sheets before you enquire.

Accessories from the same branch

Binding wire in 5 kg and 50 kg rolls (1.6 mm and 3.15 mm gauges), chair spacers from 25 mm to 100 mm, green plastic DPC, concrete reinforcing accessories, rebar caps and reinforcing bar couplers on request, pre-assembled rebar, and stainless steel rods.

Fixing support on site

For reinforcing steel supplied by RMS, the branch offers installation support: steel fixing teams who place and fix rebar to the structural drawings and safety standards, with site supervision. This applies to RMS-supplied steel only, and RMS does not install welded mesh.

From commercial and residential builds to government and industrial projects, RMS East London supports contractors and developers across the province.
