On Wednesday 1 October 2026, four members of the RMS Bloemfontein team swapped rebar and mesh for lawn bowls, pink tutus and bunny ears. The occasion was OFM’s Bowling For Boobies, the opening night of the radio station’s PinkTober campaign for breast cancer awareness. The Bloemfontein leg was the first of nine fundraising evenings held across Central South Africa during October.

A night of bowls for two good causes

Bowling For Boobies is simple and effective. Teams of four enter at R2,500 a team, and every rand of the entry fee goes to the two PinkTober beneficiaries: CANSA, the Cancer Association of South Africa, and Reach for Recovery, which supports women and their families after a breast cancer diagnosis. The evening brought together local businesses and bowling club members for a few ends of bowls, a burger dinner, prizes for the best-dressed team and the best team name, and a great deal of gees. By the end of October the campaign had passed its R1 million goal, with more than R1 million raised across the nine evenings.

Our team on the night

RMS Bloemfontein was represented by Coleen Barnard, Martin Bakker, branch manager Marcus Erasmus and Daniella Monginho. In matching black PinkTober shirts, pink tutus and pink ears, they held their own on the green and, judging by the photos, enjoyed every minute of it. Breast cancer touches families in every town we serve, and the team was proud to add RMS Bloemfontein’s support to a cause that matters to so many of our customers, colleagues and neighbours.

Why we take part

RMS supplies reinforcing steel and mesh to builders and contractors across the Free State from our Estoire branch, and the people who work here are part of this community. Showing up for a local cause, in person and with a smile, is part of how we see our place in Bloemfontein. We would like to thank OFM, CANSA and Reach for Recovery for organising an evening that was as much fun as it was worthwhile, and everyone who entered a team or made a donation. You can read more about the campaign on OFM’s PinkTober page.
