Women in Construction: Celebrating the Women Helping Build South Africa

Who says construction is only for men?

Spend a few minutes at any RMS | Reinforcing & Mesh Solutions branch and you will quickly discover the answer.

From contract supervisors and industrial engineers to production planners, credit controllers, exports specialists and internal sales professionals, women play an essential role in keeping construction projects moving across South Africa.

This Women’s Day, we are proud to celebrate the women of RMS and the expertise, commitment and professionalism they bring to our business every single day.

Construction Needs Every Skill

When people think about construction, they often picture hard hats, cranes and concrete pours.

What they do not always see is everything that happens behind the scenes.

Every reinforcing steel order depends on planning, technical knowledge, customer service, scheduling, logistics, production, finance and communication. Without these functions working together, projects simply do not move forward.

The women at RMS contribute across every stage of that process, ensuring that contractors, engineers and developers receive the products, advice and support they need to deliver successful projects.

More Than 130 Years of Combined Experience

One of the most remarkable aspects of this year’s Women’s Day campaign is the combined experience represented by the women featured.

Together, they bring more than 130 years of experience to the reinforcing steel and construction industry.

That experience has been built across a wide range of disciplines, including:

  • Contract supervision
  • Internal sales
  • Industrial engineering
  • Production planning
  • Credit management
  • Credit control
  • Data capture
  • Exports
  • Administration

Each role may look different, but every one contributes to delivering reinforcing steel solutions that help build South Africa.

Building More Than Structures

Construction is ultimately about people.

Every bridge, warehouse, residential development, shopping centre, renewable energy project and piece of infrastructure relies on teams of dedicated professionals working together behind the scenes.

The women at RMS demonstrate that success in construction is not defined by job title or location. Whether working on site, supporting customers from a branch office, coordinating exports or helping clients find the right reinforcing steel solution, every contribution matters.

Their work helps ensure projects are delivered safely, accurately and on time, strengthening not only structures but also the relationships that RMS has built with customers across South Africa.

Looking Ahead

The construction industry continues to evolve, and with it comes greater opportunity for women to build rewarding careers across engineering, manufacturing, production, logistics, technical sales and project support.

At RMS, we are proud of the women who have helped shape our business, and of the next generation who will continue to strengthen both our company and the South African construction industry.

This Women’s Day, we celebrate every woman at RMS, every woman working across the construction industry, and every woman helping build a stronger South Africa.

Happy Women’s Day.
