RMS Warrior Race
Was November & RMS entered the Jeep Warrior Race (#8) as a team building exercise. Excitement clearly seen on the faces of the 19 RMS team members along with the numerous supporters who came along for moral support and in the hope of that once in a life time picture that people wished was never taken.
The warrior vets amongst them knew that the best way to prepare was, have a quick cigarette or two between downing two beers before the race, ensure that their cigarettes were safely in a ziplock bag ready for the halfway breather. After applying copious amounts of sunblock and dragging the guys away from visiting the Nivea girls dispensing the sunblock, we were ready for the challenge.
Initial excitement soon turned to nervous exchanges just before the race started, but the Warrior’s MC kept everyone’s spirits up and even singled out one of our own Michelle in the Jhb office, as true Warrior material. The race and obstacles pushed them to mental and physical limits, but with the help of team members, who pushed and pulled, sometimes dragging each other over and through obstacles, these hurdles were conquered one at a time.
Team spirit was kept up throughout the race despite the heat and the tiring hills, with our own war cry, with singing and clapping all the way up to the top of the last obstacle, the TOWER of RAGE. A muddy pool of water awaited as the final challenge only reachable by jumping from the 6m or 4m high tower platform of the TOWER. Not even being unable to swim or a huge fear of heights was able to deter one of the team from completing. It’s amazing what encouragement from your fellow team members can do. So everybody finished the course with none of them doing penalty burpees for skipping an obstacle.
Afterwards, everybody celebrated the success by enjoying free beers (a reward from Jeep Warrior for finishing), and laughing at ourselves, covered in mud, exhausted and sore, but having thoroughly enjoyed the day with many asking when the next Warrior would be.
